Called "James Bond with fangs," THE FIXER tells the story of Lawson, a cynical, jaded part cop/spy/commando divinely chosen from birth to help protect the Balance - the line separating humanity and the race of living vampires that has evolved in secret alongside humans over thousands of years. Called upon to protect his race by rooting out rogues, criminals, terrorists, and ne'er-do-wells, Lawson dispenses justice with extreme prejudice, sarcasm by the bowlful, and bullets by the pound. Lawson's area of operations (AO) is Boston and New England, but his previous missions have taken him all over the world.
What makes THE FIXER so unique and utterly cool? Unlike every other vampire story, the vampires in Lawson's world ae *not* undead. They're members of a separately evolving race that has existed in secret for thousands of years. They have their own society carefully intermingled with humans who, for the most part, have no idea they exist.
A thrilling mix of Crime, Espionage, and Magic - THE FIXER will deliver pulse-pounding episodes!
An only child who lost his father and mother from an early age, Lawson is a cynical, jaded, anti-hero. He's followed the rules for a long time, but is unsure of his role in the universe beyond what he was seemingly divinely chosen to do: be a Fixer. As his missions have taken him all over the world and exposed him to a wide range of people and races, Lawson struggles to come to grips with his job and the laws he is sworn to uphold.
Talya is an ex-KGB assassin who came to fame in the mid-80s by vanishing into the Afghanistan mountains in order to track down and eliminate a Mujahadeen warlord who was responsible for the deaths of countless Soviet soldiers. Nowadays, Talya (full name Natalya Chernenko) freelances for a variety of clients and governments. She is Lawson's on-again-off-again lover, popping into his life for moments, only to disappear on her own missions. Lately, Talya has started wondering whether it might be time to retire and start a family - a touchy subject given the fact that she was the product of a rape.
Lawson's never had much respect for his Controls, so when Niles came on the scene in the 3rd novel, THE DESTRUCTOR, it was a surprise to Lawson most of all that he ended up not only respecting his new Control, but considering him a friend as well. Niles is a trust fund baby who went against his family's wishes by pursuing a career with the Fixer Service. Niles' field experience is limited, but he's proven himself several times as competent backup. A Pilates enthusiast and sometimes vegetarian, Niles spends much of his free time hanging out in Boston's dance clubs.
Young, somewhat naive, and gorgeous, Martina (Marty) serves as the local armorer for the Fixer Service. She is headquartered in the Council building's subterranean labyrinthine complex where she customizes firearms and makes the loads that are fired in Fixer guns. She wants nothing more than to get her hands dirty on an actual assignment, but she wasn't accepted into the Fixer Academy. Her main inspiration in life is Lawson, whom she worships.
Frosty, aloof, and utterly aristocratic, Ava is one of the seniormost members of the vampire governing body, The Council. As a member of one of the oldest bloodlines in the vampire world, Ava is used to getting her way - at any cost. And while her beauty is renown, her cunning is respected even more by those who know her best: her enemies. She dislikes dealing with the Fixer Service in general and Lawson especially, but cannot deny the effectiveness of the work he does.
An ex-Fixer from London, Arthur has seen it all - twice. He now works as the security chief of the Council building in Boston, and greets everyone who wants to enter. He favors a pump-action shotgun as his weapon of choice and is known for his diabolical drink concoctions. Most notably, "boomshanka," a dizzying combination of whiskey, blood, and certain herbs that Arthur claims help fortify the drinker's constitution. Arthur is still haunted by a mission from his past that he never put to rest.
